Cyclone Femme is a drawing using the reductive method which pulls charcoal out using an eraser first, and then slowing layering graphite to build form. This pose struck me as a wonderful mix of two seemingly contradictory vibes. On the one hand, she is cocooned by the drapery, turning away, perhaps to protect herself. But on the other hand, she is torqued, the spiral of the drape, mimicking the current of a tornado; she is poised to release and spring into the air with immense centrifugal force. Seeing human complexity and ambiguity mirrored in physical gesture and body language is a constant source of inspiration to me.
